It actually started many years ago when my mom patiently tried to teach me how to sew a button on. Needless to say, I didn't learn very much, but I fell in love with the idea of sewing.
At the age of 12, I was given a hand-me-down sewing machine. Unfortunately, I wasn't in a position to repair it, so my first real experience with sewing was entirely by hand. To my surprise, I loved it.
Back then, I dreamed of creating a clothing brand called McCow. I would sew zips onto random pieces of denim and fully embrace the punk-inspired fashion trends of the early 2000s. Looking back, those creations may have been unconventional, but they sparked a lifelong passion for creativity.
When I turned 18, my mom bought me my very first sewing machine and later supported me in pursuing formal studies. That led to additional courses, new skills, and eventually a job at a dress shop where I fell in love with appliqué work and embellishing beautiful garments. From there, I moved into alterations, gaining valuable experience and confidence in my craft.
Life, as it often does, took a few unexpected turns. I got married, had children, navigated many ups and downs, found my incredible husband, and welcomed more children into our family. While spending my days at home raising my little ones, I found myself looking for a creative outlet between feeds, naps, and endless nappy changes.
That was when two of my greatest loves - earrings and hand sewing - came together.
What began as a way to fill spare moments soon grew into something much bigger, and before long, Beaded Affair was born.
At Beaded Affair, we are passionate about originality. We love avant-garde, out-of-the-box designs that make a statement. We also have a deep appreciation for recycling and upcycling, and many of our creations incorporate repurposed materials in unique and imaginative ways.
Our earrings and denim jackets are all original, one-of-a-kind designs. Many of our scrunchies and other creations also carry that same spirit of individuality, though some are made in small numbers from whatever beautiful fabric we have at the time. We take pride in authentic craftsmanship, creative expression, and providing exceptional customer service.
More than anything, we don't see our work as simply handmade products - we see it as wearable art. Every piece is an expression, every design tells its own story, and no two creations are ever quite the same.
